The home side went into the game on a five game unbeaten run in the Eredivisie but they failed to get going in a dull first half, which saw both sides struggle to create chances.
Willem II woke up in the second half and Erik Falkenburg went close with a header before Jordy Croux forced Joris Delle into a good save. However, NEC were also dangerous on the counter and Ferdi Kadioglu shot just over before Mohamed Rayhi missed a fantastic chance from close range.
The decisive moment came in the 76th minute with Grot latching onto Kadioglu’s pass before firing past Kostas Lamprou for his fourth goal in the last four league games. Willem II pushed for an equaliser but NEC held on for a win which moves them 10th, while Willem II sit 12th.
