Vitesse went into the game on the back of their Europa League exit to Southampton midweek, but they started the match against Willem II on top with Milot Rashica seeing a shot tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou, who also kept out an effort from Isaiah Brown.
It wasn’t until after the break that Willem II came into the game, with Lesley de Sa sending an effort crashing off the bar, while Eloy Room had to be at his best to divert Stijn Wuytens shot for a corner. From the resulting corner the home side had the lead with Erik Falkenburg arriving at the back post to prod the ball into the net after a flick on by Richairo Zivkovic.
On 74 minutes Vitesse equalised through winger Denys Oliinyk, who was left in too much space in the Willem II box and after he controlled Rashica’s cross, the Ukrainian found the bottom corner.
Neither side could find a winner, but Vitesse ended the match with ten men after goalscorer Oliinyk was shown a straight red for an elbow.
