Edwin van de Looi’s side went into the game having scored only four times at home this season, but the crowd didn’t have to wait long for the fifth goal. After only fifteen minutes, Fran Sol nodded in a corner at the far post to put Willem II in front.
However, nine minutes later the visitors leveled through an unfortunate own goal by Freek Heerkens, who worked Arber Zeneli’s cross into his own goal with Sam Larsson lurking. The defender nearly made up for his header quickly but his header came back off the post.
Willem II restored their lead early in the second half from another corner. This time the ball was worked towards the far post via a deflection off Stijn Schaars and Sol was on hand to tap-in from close range.
Heerenveen spent the rest of the match searching for their equaliser, with Larsson especially dangerous, but the home side held on for the victory.
Willem II rise to 13th with the three points, while Heerenveen remain 4th.
