Willem II coach Jurgen Streppel handed Lucas Andersen his first start for the club after his loan from Ajax, and the midfielder provided much needed creativity to the hosts. After half an hour Andersen created the opening goal with his cross finding Erik Falkenburg in the box and the midfielder beat Robbin Ruiter from close range,
Utrecht struggled to get into the game and after 40 minutes they were reduced to ten men after Sebastien Haller was shown a straight red card for a stupid confrontation with Frank van der Struijk. However despite being down a man, Utrecht equalised just after the break with Nacer Barazite sending a thunderous strike past Kostas Lamprou.
However parity was short lived as Willem II regained the lead on 54 minutes when Robbie Haemhouts set up Frank van de Struijk to fire past Ruiter, and on 70 minutes the home side sealed the win as Andersen calmly finished Haemhouts cross.
Willem II jump up to 14th after the win, while Utrecht sit 8th.
