Willem II got themselves a much-needed 3-0 victory over VVV Venlo to move four points clear of the drop zone.

VVV went into the game full of confidence after their 1-0 victory over Feyenoord at the weekend, while Willem II were looking to bounce back after their loss at Sparta.

The first half was an unspectacular affair with both teams struggling to create chances until the 44th minute when Bartholomew Ogbeche netted the opening goal after a scramble in the box.

Four minutes into the second half, Ogbeche turned provider, setting up Ben Rienstra to slot in the host’s second goal. In the 52nd minute, it was 3-0. Jordy Croux saw his corner cleared, but after receiving the ball back the winger beautifully curled it into the net.

Willem II then comfortably saw out the rest of the second half to claim the three points. They sit 14th, while VVV are 9th.
