Willem II director Martin van Geel has confirmed the club are still waiting for millions from Frenkie de Jong’s move to Barcelona.

Ajax sold De Jong to Barcelona for around €86 million in the summer, which means Willem II are due around €8.5 million because of a resale percentage.
Speaking to Brabants Dagblad, Martin van Geel spoke about the financial uncertainty that Willem II have due to the coronavirus outbreak, “If the virus had broken out two years ago, we would have been much worse financially and sportively. But it is still hard work to keep the club afloat.”
Van Geel expects that FIFA will help ensure Barcelona pays them what is due and spoke about the absurdity at the top of football, “After two weeks of no football, Barcelona asked if the players wanted to hand in seventy percent of their salary. A few days later, it was announced that according to some media, the club has 100 million euros and a salary of seven million euros left for Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. It represents the absurdity of top football. It would be nice if that normalised. “
Willem II are also waiting on money from Dynamo Kiev for Fran Sol, and from Aucas for Diego Palacios.
