Rick Zuijderwijk has extended his contract with Willem II and wants to break into their first-team next season.

Back in January, Zuijderwijk was linked with a move to Barcelona, which led to comparisons with Frenkie de Jong, who also started out with Willem II.

Speaking to Brabants Dagblad, the 19-year-old has rubbished the rumours of a move to Spain, “No. People remember that there was once a message that I was associated with Barcelona. They always start talking about it. I am completely done with that comparison with Frenkie de Jong. I go my own way and am very satisfied with it for the time being.”

Zuijderwijk has signed a new deal until 2023 and wants to break into the Willem II first-team next season, “Willem II has brought me into the selection of the first team this season. Once you are ready, you want to break through. Of course I know Van Dijk’s story. The accent is often on players who have left earlier. I wants to make a name for himself in the first team with Willem II.”

The midfielder made two appearances in the Eredivisie last season.
