boymans aasGoing into Monday’s full round of Eerste Divisie matches, Willem II were one point ahead of 2nd placed Dordrecht with two games to go. With Willem II beating Telstar 4-0 thanks to goals from Jonas Heymans, Ali Messaoud, and a double from Ruud Boymans, coupled with Dordrecht drawing 1-1 with Den Bosch, the club from Tilburg sealed their place as champions.

Its a great moment for Willem II, who suffered relegation from the Eredivisie last season after finishing bottom, and coach Jurgen Streppel deserves immense credit for guiding the club straight back up.

Willem II are unbeaten in their last 13 matches, and have only suffered seven defeats in 37 matches, with striker Ruud Boymans the club’s hero, netting 26 goals.

Second place Dordrecht, who had led the Eerste Divisie for most of the season will now have to enter the end of season play-offs for their chance to gain promotion.
