Willems traveled to France with PSV last week for pre-season training, however, left soon after. It’s now being reported that he will be out of action for around 2 months with a ligament issue in his left knee. It is being reported that he does not need surgery, which both means it won’t be an extended period time out, and is not an extensive injury.
PSV will start a campaign to defend their title as Eredivisie champions on August 8 as they take on ADO Den Haag. Willems, along with former teammates Memphis Depay and Gini Wijnaldum were seen as the three most important players in bringing the Eredivisie title back to Eindhoven, and they will have to find a way to start the campaign off successfully without all three of their most promising stars from last season.
