PEC Zwolle took a step away from the drop zone after a 1-0 victory over a very young Groningen side.

After Kaj Sierhuis moved to Stade de Reims on deadline day, 17-year-old Romano Postema was given the chance to start up front for Groningen, with new signing Daishawn Redan not yet eligible.

The youngster got the first chance of the game but his shot after a strong run was not strong enough to test Michael Zetterer.

PEC Zwolle frustrated their visitors with their five-man defence and just before the break they had the lead. Yuta Nakayama headed in the opener.

In the second half, Groningen turned to another 17-year-old, Kian Slor, who came within inches of earning his side a point. However, his strike came back off the post.

PEC Zwolle held on for the victory which moves them to 14th. Groningen are 8th.
