zeefuik hearThe Scottish Championships ended on Saturday with Genero Zeefuik scoring twice to earn champions Hearts a 2-2 draw with Rangers. The double took the Dutchman’s goal tally to 12 in 15 games in what has been a great loan deal for the forward.

The 25-year-old now returns to Groningen, but the striker does not feature in Edwin van de Looi’s plans for next season and will likely be sold. Zeefuik is under contract until 2016, and will command a fee to leave, something Hearts will not be able to afford, while the players wages would also be a problem.

However speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, Zeefuik stated he will discuss his future with the Groningen board, and is hopeful of a return to Hearts.

Zeefuik said, “I go back to Groningen tomorrow and I will train there. Once the season finishes there we are going to talk,”

“Maybe I can come here to Hearts or go to another club. I don’t know. We will see at the end of the season. Of course there is a small chance I can stay. I don’t think Groningen want me.

“They want to sell me so we will see where I am going to play. I did a good job here so maybe it’s possible I can play here next season.”
