In conversation with Algemeen Dagblad, Zenit’s technical director Henk van Stee confirmed the club are looking towards the Eredivisie this summer with PSV duo Luuk de Jong and Georginio Wijnaldum targets, along with Feyenoord’s Jordy Clasie.
Van Stee said, “Big clubs work with shadow lists.”
“Clasie, De Jong and Wijnaldum are interesting options. The time that this club put down forty million for purchases is over. Players from the Eredivisie are cheaper and are often very far in their development. The interest is not so concrete that we have reported for the players, but I do not exclude that something going to happen. That depends on all sorts of development.”
Zenit will face competition to sign any of the three players though, with PSG circling Wijnaldum, Fenerbahce linked with De Jong, and Jordy Clasie attracting interest from Southampton and Newcastle United.
