Netherlands begin their preparations for the friendly match against the United States on the 5th of June, and the crucial European Championship qualifier in Latvia a week later, on Monday, with Guus Hiddink set to run the rule over a 31-man squad before cutting it down on the 29th of May.
Hiddink named a 30-man preliminary squad last week, but has now added Twente midfielder Hakim Ziyech. The 22-year-old has been in excellent form for Twente this season, and finished top of the Eredivisie assist charts with 16, while also scoring 13 goals.
Speaking to the Twente website, Ziyech said on his call-up, “I had taken no note of this at all, because the pre-selection was announced. Now I have to postpone my vacation, but I did it gladly, ”
“This is still a nice step up. You’re on the field with the best players in the Netherlands and that’s something every footballer wants. I hope for a good week at Oranje and of course i also want to leave a good impression, but I also intend to enjoy myself. ”
Ziyech has four caps for Netherlands U21’s but has yet to feature for the full squad despite his excellent form over the past two seasons. The midfielder has always represented Netherlands at youth level, but could also opt for Morocco.
